Iteriad Creative Director

Biography in brief

Paul is a professional Chartered Landscape Architect and Masterplanner. Driven by his passion for design, Paul is a highly skilled masterplanner and designer with over 35 years experience in multidisciplinary working. He is a founding director of Iteriad in practice since 2012.

Paul is a true creative and an artist, he is our ideas man who can capture the imagination with enthusiasm. His approach to design embraces a narrative that tells of the spirit of the place.

 

He is leading the creative thinking process on a number of masterplans including New Park House Mental Health Unit at North Manchester General Hospital, Maghull Health Park Learning Disabilities Low Secure Unit and Bury College. He led the visioning for a rejuvenated Maryport Harbour, Whitehaven North Harbour, Sizergh Castle and the new public realm for Summer Fruits at Chavasse Park Liverpool One.

He previously worked at BDP as a Landscape Architect Director responsible for the direction of the Urbanism Group including the design and planning teams, in the BDP Manchester office. 

 

Whilst at BDP he led the design of a large number of high profile public realm projects, and has developed the integrated role of public art and landscape reinforced by the use of a craftsman approach engaging artists in collaborative design. His commissions included large scale masterplanning and concept designs across all sectors both in the UK and internationally including Liverpool One, Birchwood Park Warrington, Libya Universities, Renaissance of Whitehaven Harbour, West Lakes Science and Technology Park and more. 

 

Previous to BDP Paul worked at Urbis Planning Design Group in Hong Kong from 1982-1984.

 

Awards

With BDP Paul led the external works design and delivery on many of the projects that received various industry environmental awards including:

  • Liverpool One - Chavasse Park and Gardens  - RIBA Stirling Prize (Shortlisted 2008), BALI Grand Award, LI Award

  • Preston Temple Gardens, Chorley  - BALI Grand Award

  • Renaissance of Whitehaven harbour  - RTPI Award

  • Henry Cort Millennium Street Gallery, Fareham – RTPI Award

  • Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool – RIBA Award

  • Booths Hall Office Park, Knutsford – BALI Award

October 2024: North View new mental health hospital at North Manchester General is now completed on site with patients and service users due to move in next month. We have been working with a fantastic design team, client team at GMMHT and IHP Vinci contractors. The end result is looking great.

 

October 2024: Our rehabilitation courtyard and landscape scheme at West Cumberland Hospital Whitehaven is now complete. The hospital has been designed by GDA and was opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne in early October 2024.

 

October 2024: Dorothy Pattison Hospital for older adults and dementia care is noe complete and handed over to Black Country Partnership Trust.

September 2024: Our garden estate project for a private client in the Lake District is now finished to a very high standard.

June 2024: Our new public realm design for the Old Quadrangle is now complete and open to the public ready for the University of Manchester bicentennial celebrations.

 

January 2024: We are pleased to be working with P+HS Architects on two new healthcare projects in Cumbria. Workington Community Diagnostics Centre in Workington with GRAHAM Construction and Carlisle Endoscopy Unit at Cumberland Infirmary with Actiform.

 

October 2023: Our mental health portfolio is rapidly expanding with a new commission with the Gilling Dod Architects team for the development of the Heath Lane MH Recovery Hub for Black Country NHS Partnership.
