North Manchester General Hospital
Mental Health
Iteriad have been working as part of IHP Vinci's team with GDA, Curtins and Waterman Engineers to deliver the new North View Mental Health Unit at North Manchester General Hospital. The project is part of a wider campus masterplan to redevelop the whole hospital estate. The project is now complete on site and open October 2024. Patients and service users will move in in November 2024.
The linear shaped hospital building is based on a biophilic design footprint with wing nut shaped ward units that enclose the private ward gardens.
The external landscape environment also includes a main public realm arrival space with sculptural curvilinear ribbon wall feature, with over 22 new ward gardens and courtyards for adults of working age, older adults, dementia and therapy spaces including a PICU unit with it's own private external space. The building sits on a sloping site with a single story at upper floor level to the eastern side with retaining walls along the perimeter and a two storeys with lower and upper ground floor level to the western half of the site.
